Stephanie Joy is a self-taught artist who started drawing as soon as she could hold a crayon. Early life presented her with many challenges, and she found art to be a safe place she could escape. She still holds that belief and attempts to carve out as much drawing time as possible as she juggles single motherhood and a full-time design career. Stephanie lives in the PNW with her son J and partner Matt.
Artist Statement
"I draw to share with others how I see life. I work predominantly in graphite and charcoal with an intent to understand light and shadow.
I love details. I lose myself in them. When I've captured enough detail, the rendering takes shape and the subject emerges.
If the viewer recognizes the subject in my drawing, that's great. If my work makes them feel something in their observation, that's even better."
