Y'all, I went large with this one... she's right at 6 feet tall! Horses were the very first types of portraits that I absolutely dove head first into as a kid, I had a serious fixation with them (along with centaurs, pegasuses... pegasi... whatever, unicorns for DAAAYYYZZZ). So working on this beauty made me feel like that little kid again, so happy to just be drawing this beautiful girl. I named this piece "A Horse to Water," after the old proverb "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink." But he felt like a she, to me, and I also felt like she took her own dang self to that water... because she's obviously a wild girl. Alternative name was "A Drink with a Friend," because she enjoys seeing and visiting with that familiar gal that always seems to be thirsty at the same time she is.
I'm elated that my drawing was selected. I hope to see y'all there on opening night!
